Electromagnetic Fields, Pulsed Radiofrequency Radiation, and Epigenetics: How Wireless Technologies May Affect Childhood Development

May 15, 2017

Announcing a Special Section of Child Development from © The Society for Research in Child Development, Inc. Contemporary Mobile Technology and Child and Adolescent Development, edited by Zheng Yan and Lennart Hardell, May 15, 2017 Article by Cindy Sage and Ernesto Burgio Abstract Mobile phones and other wireless devices that produce electromagnetic fields (EMF) and pulsed radiofrequency radiation (RFR) are widely documented to cause potentially harmful health impacts that can be detrimental to young people. New epigenetic studies are profiled in this review to account for some neurodevelopmental and neurobehavioral [...]

Preliminary Opinion on Potential Health Effects of Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields (EMF)

March 7, 2014

The BioInitiative Working Group is in the process of reviewing the Preliminary Opinion on Potential Health Effects of Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields (EMF). The public consultation period requires submittals by April 16, 2014. As we read it, the instructions from SCENIHR designate a format that limits comment to 2500 characters (or by our estimate, about 500 words ). No email or postal mail comments may be submitted separately. This letter requests SCENIHR to allow more detailed comments on the 211 page draft report. We respectfully request that our full comment [...]

Martin Blank (1933-2018)

July 2, 2018

It is with great appreciation for Martin Blank that the BioInitiative Working Group acknowledges his many contributions, and sadness we feel in losing a cherished friend and humanitarian. Martin was the kind of scientist and colleague who understood that science needs a human voice. In his professional life, he gave endlessly to promote public communication on complex health issues. He understood that waiting for academic certainty on scientific issues would penalize families who should be preventing EMF exposures in their children’s critical developmental phases of life. He didn’t shy away [...]

Consultation on Scientific Review for the upcoming WHO Environmental Health Criteria

December 16, 2014

The BioInitiative Working Group will reserve comment at this time on the partially completed health risk assessment of radiofrequency electromagnetic fields. For serious effort to be expended, the draft must contain a summary, health risk assessment and protective measures in addition to science chapters alone.  >> DOWNLOAD PDF The WHO process has been flawed by partitioning off key sections, undercutting meaningful review. This issue is of global public health importance. Scientific and public health reviewers, as well as with many in the public domain care deeply about this issue. It [...]
